Our School

Welcoming, Safe & Caring School

Foothills Academy ensures the safety, health and personal well-being of each and every student.

Our Safe and Caring School Policy provides a welcoming, tolerant, supportive and safe school environment for all students, staff and visitors. We strongly promote the anti-bullying initiative of Pink Shirt Day and the spirit and understanding of reconciliation with Orange Shirt Day (in conjunction with year-long initiatives and celebration on National Indigenous People’s Day).  Additionally, our students are involved with Headstrong, a student-driven initiative to collaborate with staff in removing the stigmas of mental health. These Headstrong students have been instrumental in fostering a safe and caring environment at Foothills. They have presented at our annual Inside Out Conference and at teacher Professional Development days.

Alberta’s Ministry of Education passed Bill 24, which is an Act to support Gay-Straight Alliances and is a move to support many students who feel vulnerable or lost at school and in society. It is imperative that we make sure all students feel welcome, cared for, respected and safe in their learning environments at school, and Bill 24 is an important piece of this.

As per the legislated requirements under the School Act, Section 45.1 (including Section 16.1), Foothills Academy’s Policy providing students and staff with a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment, including the student code of conduct, is linked below.
